LAO Accountability Statement

Legal Aid Ontario’s governance structure and accountability relationship with the Province of Ontario are outlined in the Legal Aid Services Act, 1998. Legal Aid Ontario operates within a framework of accountability arising from the laws that govern it, including the Legal Aid Services Act and the Human Rights Code, provincial policies, agreements with clinics and its own internal policies. Legal Aid Ontario’s administration is also governed by a Memorandum of Understanding between the Attorney General of Ontario and Legal Aid Ontario.
